What did GE's analytics software find?
In May, the GE SmartSignal solution detected an increased temperature difference between two crank end cylinder discharge temperatures on a reciprocating compressor. As the conditions continued to worsen, GE’s Industrial Performance and Reliability Center (IPRC) added this item to the weekly report for discussion with the customer.
What was the underlying cause?
Upon investigation, the customer discovered a broken cylinder discharge valve on the crank end of the compressor. The valve was changed out during a short planned shutdown.
What was the value to the customer?
Due to the early notification, along with the daily monitoring and regular updates from the IPRC, the customer was able to plan the repairs around operational demands. This minimized process downtime and impact on production.
