As the largest processor of residual heat in the Netherlands, Dutch waste to energy company AVR is an important part of the country's environmental industry.
Not only do they process waste, but they use the energy in the most efficient way possible – for district heating. By-products of the power generation process - such as CO2 and bottom-ash - are then resold to the agriculture and construction industries. By burning waste, this industrial process also helps to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. With so many stakeholders - including local residents - it's essential that the company is able to avoid any unplanned downtime.
AVR are now working with GE Digital to implement Predix Asset Performance Management (Predix APM) on its steam turbines at their waste to energy plant in Duiven, an hour and a half west of Amsterdam. Predix APM will help AVR to anticipate unplanned downtime and keep their facility running for the benefit of both the business and the community.
