IT Director - Global Manufacturing, General Motors
Mano Rao has over 29 years of experience in the IT industry. He joined GM as the leader for Global Purchasing and Supply Chain IT applications development organization. He took on his current role as the leader of the Global Manufacturing IT applications development organization in Jan 2020.
Mano began his career with IBM as a software engineer working on operating systems and middleware. He joined the Dell Online IT team in 2000. He was responsible for various aspects of the eCommerce platform including pricing, configuration, and product data management. He subsequently took on leadership roles in the Manufacturing and Supply Chain IT organization at Dell where he led the IT team in the re-engineering of Dell's supply chain management processes and applications.
Mano moved to Hewlett Packard in 2009 to lead the Marketing and Content Management IT organization. He did a brief stint as Chief Technology Officer at a startup company in Austin that was involved with sales, manufacturing, and fulfillment of custom wall art. Since Jan 2013, Mano has been involved with the IT transformation effort at General Motors.
Mano earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. He has also completed several executive education courses at University of Texas, Austin, and Harvard University, Cambridge.
