Error Messages while Consuming an Exact Serial/Lot Number

This section describes the error messages that you might see while you try to consume an exact serial/lot number. For more information on consuming serial/lot, refer to the section Specify Consumption of BOM Items for a Production Event.

Error Messages Message Description Corrective Actions
Cannot consume more than what is currently available. Current Quantity is <value> The available quantity in the serial/lot is less than the quantity specified in the QTY TO CONSUME box.
  • Consume the available current quantity from the existing serial/lot, and then consume the remaining required quantity from another serial/lot.
  • Consume from another serial/lot that contains the quantity as needed.
Unit of measure of the serial/lot does not match unit of measure for required quantity. Cannot consume this serial/lot: <Serial/lot name> UOM of the BOM Material does not match the UOM of serial/lot that you are trying to consume from.
  • Consume from a different serial/lot that has the correct UOM that matches the UOM for the required quantity.
  • If you are a Plant Apps administrator, you can configure the UOM of the serial/lot in BOM Editor.
This serial/lot is currently not available. Production status = <status>, Current quantity = <value>, Inventory = <No> The Inventory flag is NO for the production status of the serial/lot that you are trying to consume from.
  • Consume from a different serial/lot.
  • If you are a Plant Apps administrator, you can configure the Inventory flag as Yes for the production status of the serial/lot, using Production Status Editor in Plant Applications Administrator> Global Configuration.
This serial/lot is currently not available on a valid location. Production status = <status> , Current quantity = <value>, Inventory = <No> In case of process manufacturing system, the serial/lot that you are trying to consume is created on an invalid storage unit (the unit is not attached to BOM Material).
Note: In case of a process manufacturing system, for a BOM Material, a valid unit is the storage unit configured in the BOM formulation.

In case of a discrete manufacturing system, as there is no storage unit restriction, you will not get this error message. Instead, you can consume from the serial/lot.

 You must consume from the serial/lot that is created on a valid storage unit.
This serial/lot is currently not available. Production status = <status>, Current quantity = <value>, Inventory = <Yes/No>, Not a valid status on the location In case of a process manufacturing system, the production status of the serial/lot that you are trying to consume is not listed in the valid status list for the raw material input configuration.

In case of a discrete manufacturing system, as there is no storage unit restriction, you will not get this error message. Instead, you can consume from the serial/lot.
  • Consume from a different serial/lot.
  • If you are a Plant Apps administrator, you can do any of the following:
    • Add the required status to the valid status list, using Unit Properties Configuration in Plant Applications Administrator > Plant Model.
    • Configure the status of the serial/lot to one of the valid statuses using Production Status Editor in Plant Applications Administrator> Global Configuration.
