Overview of the Asset Criticality Analysis (ACA) Module

Asset Criticality Analysis (ACA) is a tool that you can use to define the criticality of a system and the individual locations and pieces of equipment that make up that system. The ACA interface lets you define the probability and consequences of the failure events that may occur for a system, which helps you determine which of your systems, locations, and pieces of equipment have the highest risk of failure in your facility. In other words, using an ACA, you can determine which of your systems, locations, and pieces of equipment are critical.

After you have determined which of your systems, locations, and pieces of equipment are critical, you can use GE Digital APM modules to further analyze and safeguard those systems, locations, and pieces of equipment. For example, through an ACA, you might discover that if Equipment A were to fail, it could cause a catastrophic event in your facility, leading to personal injury. In this case, Equipment A is considered critical, and you may want to use the Asset Strategy Management (ASM) module to develop a strategy for optimizing the performance of Equipment A.

Using ACA, you can:

  • Define the systems, locations, and pieces of equipment whose criticality you want to assess.
  • Evaluate the criticality of those systems, locations, and pieces of equipment by defining the consequences and probability of the events that may occur.
  • Determine if further analysis and tracking is necessary, based on the risks that the systems, locations, and pieces of equipment present.
  • Apply ACA groups to modules in the Asset Strategy work process to develop a plan for mitigating the risk of the system and its associated locations and pieces of equipment.

ACA leverages the standard GE Digital APM risk matrix that you can use to assess the criticality of your systems, locations, and pieces of equipment. After you have identified the criticality of your systems, locations, and pieces of equipment, you can determine which ones require further safeguarding, analysis, and tracking using GE Digital APM modules.

About this task

This topic describes how to access the ACA Overview page, on which you can view all the information and perform various tasks related to Asset Criticality Analysis of various Hierarchy Levels. If you want to view ACAs associated with a particular Hierarchy Level, you can access the ACA Overview page for a Hierarchy Level.

You can perform various tasks on this page based on your membership in various Security Groups.

Procedure

In the module navigation menu, select Health > Asset Criticality Analysis.
The ACA Overview page appears.

By default, the hierarchy level is set to home. You can filter the hierarchy level by selecting in the upper-left corner of the page. By default, the ACA information on the page is related to an Asset.

Access the ACA Overview Page for a Hierarchy Level

Before you begin

  • You can access the ACA Overview page only if you are a member of one of the following Security Groups Security Groups:
    • MI ACA Administrator
    • MI ACA Member
    • MI ACA Owner

You can perform the various tasks on this page based on the privileges granted to these Security Groups.

Procedure

  1. In the top navigation bar, select .
    The Asset Hierarchy appears.

  2. In the left pane, navigate to the hierarchy level for which you want to access the ACA Overview page.
A list of types of analyses performed on the selected hierarchy level appears in the workspace, in the Health section.

  3. In the workspace, in the Asset Criticality Analysis row, select the link.

The ACA Overview page for the selected hierarchy level appears, displaying the following information:

    • The Analyses tab: Displays a list of all the existing ACA for the selected Asset. You can create a new ACA, or access an existing one. The number on the tab indicates the number of existing ACA for all users related to the selected Asset.
    • The My Analyses tab: Displays a list of the ACA for the selected Asset that are owned by the user and the team members. The number on the tab indicates the number of existing ACA for the current user.

The workspace displays the following graphs that correspond only to the selected hierarchy level:

    • ACA Analyses by State : The plot gives us an overview of the number of Analyses and the state of the Analyses.
    • Asset Criticality Distribution : Displays a breakdown of number of pieces of equipment in the database that are ranked based on the risk.

While viewing any of the above graphs, you can select to customize the appearance of the graph.

You can filter the hierarchy level by selecting in the upper-left corner of the page. By default, the Asset Criticality Analysis information on the page is related to an Asset.

Asset Criticality Analysis Workflow

This topic provides the basic, high-level steps for using ACA. The steps and links in this workflow do not necessarily reference every possible procedure. For more procedures, see the links in the Related Information section.

  1. Create an ACA record.
  2. Define the system by:
  3. Evaluate risk by: Define the ACA team.
  4. Manage Reference Document records.
  5. Create and manage General Recommendation records.

When you want to view a summary of the information that is related to an ACA, you can view the reports and graphs that are associated with that analysis on the following pages:
