Restoring Archives Using Shadow Copy Service on Windows XP, Server 2003, or Windows XPe

About this task

This procedure will restore an archive using Microsoft® Volume Shadow Copy Service on Windows XP Professional SP3, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XPe.

Procedure

  1. Start the Backup or Restore Wizard .
    • Select Start, point to All Programs > Accessories, System Tools, and then select Backup.
    • On the Start menu, select Run, type ntbackup, and then select OK.
    The Backup or Restore Wizard appears.
  2. Select Next. The Backup or Restore page appears as shown below.
  3. Select Restore files and settings, and then select Next.
    The What to Restore page appears.
  4. Select Browse.
    The Open Backup File page appears.
  5. Specify the location of the backup file.
    • Enter the physical path where the backup file is stored, and then select OK.
    • Select Browse to navigate to the file location.
  6. Select the backup (.bkf) file from the Backup Identification Label list, and then select Next.
  7. Select Advanced.
    The Where to Restore page appears.
  8. From the Restore files to drop-down list, select Alternate location
  9. Select Browse to navigate to the location you want to restore the files to, and then select OK.
  10. Select Next.
    The How to Restore page appears.
  11. In the How to Restore area, select the appropriate restore option, and then select Next.
    The Advanced Restore Options page appears.
  12. Select the appropriate restore option and then select Next.
  13. Select Finish.
