Backing up Archives Using Shadow Copy Service on Windows XP, Server 2003, or Windows XPe

About this task

If you want to back up your archive files regularly, set the scheduler to back up your files automatically. If you need additional assistance with using Windows Backup Wizard, refer to Microsoft's website at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308422 .

Procedure

  1. Start the Backup or Restore Wizard
    • Select Start, point to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, then select Backup, OR
    • On the Start menu, select Run, type ntbackup, and then select OK.
    The Backup or Restore Wizard appears.
  2. Select Next.
    The Backup or Restore page appears.
  3. Select Back up files and settings, and then select Next.
    The What to Backup page appears.
  4. Select Let me choose what to back up, and then select Next.
    The Items to Back Up page appears.
  5. Specify the archive files or folder to back up by selecting the check box to the left of the file or folder.
  6. Select Next.
    The Backup Type, Destination, and Name page appears.
  7. Specify the location of the file.
    • Enter the absolute path where you want file to be located, OR
    • Select Browse to navigate to the file location.
  8. In the Type a name for this backup field, enter a name for the backup file, and then select Next.
    The Completing the Backup or Restore Wizard page appears as shown below.
  9. Select Advanced.
    The Type of Backup page appears.
  10. From the Select the type of backup drop-down list, select Copy, and then select Next.
    The How to Back Up window appears.
  11. Select the options you want to use, and then select Next.
    The Backup Options window appears.
  12. In the Backup Options area, select the appropriate backup option, and then select Next.
    The When to Back Up page appears.
  13. In the When to Back Up area, select the appropriate option, and then select Next.
  14. Select Finish.
    The Backup Progress page appears.
  15. When the backup process completes, select Close.
