2010年8月20日，星期五， 上海 -- 日前，GE全球研发中心宣布其将与美国多家科研院所合作开发仿生光敏传感器，这种传感器灵感来自蝴蝶翅膀因其本身纳米结构所具备的敏锐的感光性和化学感知特性。新的仿生纳米结构传感器将比传统传感器更加灵敏、感应速度更快，而且成本更低。这种传感器有望应用在化学物质如爆炸物的检测，并可在水质检测、环境监测、食品安全及健康领域得到广泛的应用。
三年前， GE全球研发中心的研发人员发现了蝴蝶翅膀的一个神奇功能------在不同气体环境显示不同的色彩。原来，蝴蝶翅膀颜色并不是来自于本身的有机分子，而是来自于它特殊的物理结构------蝴蝶翅膀鳞片具有一种独特的纳米结构，这种结构对周围的气体环境非常敏感，当接触到含有微量化学成分挥发物的空气时会反射出不同的颜色。观察蝴蝶翅膀的这种颜色变化，就可以了解其周围气体的化学成分。
从那时开始，GE全球研发中心的研究人员就开始着手开发一种全新的动态传感平台，试图复制蝴蝶翅膀纳米结构的独特的传感功能。

"信息是对抗癌症最有力的武器之一"，GE全球研发中心分子成像实验室首席科学家约翰*布扎克说道，"我们知道，直肠癌病例的早期并不都是一样的，其中一些病例恶化的更快。有了分子分析技术，我们可以及时诊断出那些高危性的癌症患者，从而使得他们能够接受最好最及时的治疗。"
当今癌症诊断的主要问题之一便是病理学家对某种特定癌症的分子信息掌握不充足。在诊断时，很难确定癌症的各项特征，比如其恶化的快慢。GE在分子医学上取得的突破则将改变这一现状。
2009年10月，GE的科学家宣布了他们在分子病理学上取得的成果，可以帮助医生解码以前没有被发现癌细胞里的信息。这种分子信息不仅可以增加我们对癌症的认识，还可以为患者提供更好的治疗方案选择，尤其是对早期直肠癌患者特别有效。
