Using fitness equipment from around the world to generate energy to the grid and donate it to third world countries is just one of the innovative ideas being put forward by a Canadian innovator and entrepreneur as part of the 'GE ecomagination challenge' -- a global competition launched in San Francisco in July.

ATLANTA, GA.---Sept. 9, 2010---The Hydrogen Assisted Renewable Power (HARP) project in Bella Coola, British Columbia is now officially installed and operational. This state-of-the-art energy storage project securely powers the remote community of Bella Coola with less environmental impact.The HARP system is expected to reduce Bella Coola's annual diesel consumption by 200,000 litres -- lowering greenhouse gas emissions by 600 tons annually.

Christchurch: GE New Zealand, has put its support behind victims of the Canterbury earthquake by donating $100,000NZ to Red Cross' Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
In making the announcement, Aaron Baxter, GE Money New Zealand's Managing Director said: "We, like so many others, have been touched by the Christchurch earthquake that occurred last Saturday (September 4) and hope this donation assists with the rebuilding of the city."
