2011年9月19日，中国西安 - 全球最大的多元化公司通用电气 (GE) 今天与西安市高新区管委会签署投资合作协议， 宣布GE西安创新中心和西北区总部将落户高新区。同时，双方还将携手在高新区软件新城打造西安市可持续发展示范项目------智能化市政管理平台，并在环保、绿色产品应用、以及智能平台技术等领域展开战略合作，致力打造可持续发展的绿色低碳区域。
本次协议的签署，是继年初GE与陕西省工信厅签署战略合作谅解备忘录并宣布创建创新中心后，GE在陕西省发展的又一里程碑。GE西安创新中心和西北区总部最终选择落户高新区，不仅得益于这里优良的基础设施和投资环境，更缘于其丰富的人才资源和极具创新力的地域优势。GE西安创新中心启用后，将从事照明、航空、能源等相关业务的技术创新、产品开发及工程服务，为当地客户共同开发产品及解决方案。
