Vineyard Wind Places Order For 62 GE Haliade-X Turbines

GE Renewable Energy has received an order from Vineyard Wind to supply Haliade-X turbines for Vineyard Wind 1, the first utility-scale offshore wind installation in the U.S. The project will be installed 15 miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, and will feature 62 units of the Haliade-X 13-MW turbine. With energy generation expected to start in 2023, the project will provide cost-competitive electricity for more than 400,000 homes and businesses in the state and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 1.6 million tons per year. Find out more

Next Engineers is a program of the GE Foundation, which is funded by GE and represents a commitment of up to $100 million over ten years, dedicated to increasing the diversity of young people in engineering. The goal of Next Engineers is to reach more than 85,000 students in 25 cities by 2030. Read about the inaugural program in Greenville here.

Australia Is Embracing The Hydrogen Economy

The hydrogen economy is starting to take shape in Australia’s Northern Territory, and GE wants to help with a gas turbine at a local power station that can generate electricity from burning natural gas or a blend of natural gas and hydrogen. Australia wants to become a major exporter of green hydrogen — produced with renewable energy — especially to countries in Asia that are acting fast to transition away from fossil fuels. Darwin, with its abundant sunshine and wind potential, is one of the nominated hubs. Learn more here.
