Annual Report
Writing in his letter to shareholders in GE’s 2021 Annual Report, GE Chairman and CEO Larry Culp said that “2021 was a year of historic change for GE.” Culp pointed out that the company “continued to make progress on our transformation and successfully built a new GE; one that is a simpler, stronger, high-tech industrial company … It is with this confidence that we were able to announce in November our plans to transform the company by forming three independent, investment-grade industry leaders with sustainability at their core.” Read the full letter here and find the Annual Report here.
Diversity Report
Today GE also published its Diversity Annual Report, which details the company’s actions and progress on inclusion and diversity. The report features letters from Culp and Chief Diversity Officer Brandi Thomas. This year, GE also added new voluntary self-identification data for U.S. veteran status and disability (U.S.), and a new section that covers equitable pay for gender globally and for U.S. underrepresented minority employees. Said Culp: “I am confident that our progress in diversity and inclusion will foster the business teams needed to fuel the solutions for the future of flight, precision health, and the energy transition in the next 130 years.” You can read the Diversity Report here and find employee profiles we published on GE Reports here.
Flying On Video
Last November, we told you about a commercial long-haul flight from London to Abu Dhabi operated by Etihad Airways that notched an important industry milestone. The carrier reduced the trip’s carbon emissions by 72% compared with a typical journey, using existing technologies. The Boeing 787 was powered by GE’s GEnx jet engines and used a sustainable aviation fuel mix, a contrail mitigation system, GE’s Fuel Insight software and a cleaning system that helps make jet engines run more efficiently. But there’s more to the story. Etihad collaborated with American filmmaker Michel Moskal, who placed 10 cameras in the pilot’s cockpit and filmed the Greenliner flight. The video, which was published by Moskal’s channel Just Planes last week, has already garnered more than a million views. Take a look here.
Where The Wind Blows
The National Offshore Wind Research & Development Consortium, a nonprofit funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), selected GE for two research-and-development projects to accelerate the advancement of offshore wind power. The awards focus on the joining of large turbine castings and the development of an autonomous inspection vessel (AIV) for offshore wind turbines. GE Reports has the story here.
