- Software empowers pilots through data and visualization to assist with operational or airport awareness, fuel usage, and emission reduction
- Animations provide realistic visual tools to facilitate pilot training and debriefing post-flight to identify compliance and safety hazards
FARNBOROUGH, UK – July 19, 2022 -- GE Digital today announced that it has added Flight Data Animation to FlightPulse®, to the configurable modular Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) application that is designed to put data key to operational decisions in the hands of pilots. The animation module, from GE Digital partner Applied Informatics and Research Inc. (AIRINC), a Canadian software firm that provides aviation products and data services to the aerospace industry, is based on more than 20 years of research and development into visualization technology.
GE Digital announced a partnership with AIRCINC in February to work together incorporating AIRINC’s FAS Desktop Animation Tool into GE Digital’s Flight Analytics portfolio including Safety Insight™ and FlightPulse. This new use of AIRINC technology puts the focus on safety and training.
Flight data animation can be used to validate and investigate flight events and assist with pilot operational or airport awareness training. This animation module enhances the tools GE Digital provides to airlines by empowering them with desktop software that enables them to build realistic animations of their flights.
FlightPulse is designed to provide pilots with insights and information to enable them to make smarter decisions around safety and fuel consumption and self-discover areas to optimize operations and maximize emission reduction. With the new animation module, pilots from airlines like Emirates, can use FlightPulse and view a replica of cockpit instrumentation and advanced flight path reconstruction features to assist in adoption of fuel-saving procedures on each flight.
“Operating our flights in safest and most efficient manner is our core objective, and we continuously strive to adopt the latest tools and technology to achieve this goal,” says Capt. Hassan AlHammadi, Divisional Senior Vice-President of flight operations for Emirates. “We successfully released Flight Pulse to our pilots in August 2021. Now we are working on adding the Flight Data Animation module in Flight Pulse, and to release this to our pilots in near future. This will further empower our pilots and help them operate their flights in a safe and efficient way.”
“We have the data and solutions that can help the industry make strides toward net zero today, by leveraging data that already exists and turning it into proximally accessible information,” said Andrew Coleman, general manager of GE Digital’s Aviation Software business. “The key is to give everyone in the organization, including pilots, this data upon which to make operational decisions as they drive operational excellence and improve safety.”
