New Hyperbaric Test Chamber Simulates Extreme Deepwater Conditions, Enabling Step-Change in Oil and Gas Industry Safety, Reliability and Performance
NAILSEA, UNITED KINGDOM---February 11, 2011---Demonstrating its continued commitment to subsea equipment safety, reliability and performance, GE Oil & Gas today officially opened both its new Hyperbaric Testing Hall and a newly refurbished Electrical & Electronics Assembly Plant in Nailsea, United Kingdom.
The Welsh economy received a boost today with the announcement of 100 new jobs created at the GE Aviation Wales aircraft servicing facility in Nantgarw, near Cardiff. With a 1,100 strong workforce and an annual turnover approaching £1.25 billion ($2 billion), GE Aviation is one of the largest employers in Wales.
The new jobs will be for aircraft engineers and are as a result of growing demand for servicing of the GE90 engine which last year accounted for $1.4 billion in sales.
London -- Sunday, January 23rd 2011; As the coalition government prepares to discuss the future of UK manufacturing at the forthcoming advanced manufacturing summit, a major study by GE sheds new light on what senior executives in the important high tech manufacturing sector believe the government should be doing to improve the sector's business prospects.
GE announced strong fourth-quarter 2010 earnings from continuing operations (attributable to GE) of $3.9 billion, or $0.36 per share, up 33% from the fourth quarter of 2009.

New GE research on 'cutting edge' businesses reveals high rates of growth, recruitment and export success
A new survey of high tech manufacturers, commissioned by GE, highlights a UK business sector that is forging ahead and strongly confident about prospects in 2011. However the 400 senior executives polled for the first GE High Tech Manufacturing Index also expressed concerns on other issues such as access to capital and raw materials.
Key highlights of the research include:
GE Energy Storage, has invested over £1.7million and created more than 50 new jobs at its battery research facility in Burton-on-Trent as it expands its world leading battery technology into new applications.

Its unique sodium metal halide chemistry can provide uninterruptible power for more than 15 years and can also endure the toughest climates from Arctic cold to desert conditions.
Homerton, the hospital for the London 2012 Olympics, has doubled the size of its service for babies and mums-to-be. Homerton has invested more than £12.5m in the new centre - and a further £4.8m worth of equipment has been donated by GE, a global Olympics sponsor.

GE Capital today announced that Elmar Lukas has been appointed Managing Director, Equipment Financing for GE Capital in EMEA. The creation of the new role will support GE Capital's focus on growing and expanding its equipment financing business across Europe. Elmar will oversee the company's equipment financing portfolio and be responsible for leading and executing the equipment financing and leasing strategy across the region. He will report into Isabel Fernandez, Chief Commercial Officer for GE Capital in EMEA.
