2011年4月27日，成都 --- 全球最大的多元化企业通用电气（GE）公司今天在四川大学校园里举行了一场别开生面的"开放日"活动，拉开了为期两个月的"2011年GE创想未来暑期实习生"项目（英文名称：Early Identification Program，简称EID）全国巡回招募的序幕。在跨国公司延揽人才竞争日趋激烈的今天，通过高质量的实习生项目，GE进一步将目光从应届毕业生转向更广义的在校学生群体，在实践中发掘人才，培养人才。
在川大望江校区体育馆，GE按照能源、运输、医疗等七个业务集团，分门别类地搭建了简易生动的展示亭，并安排GE员工和志愿者解答参观者的疑问，趣味性强、互动多样的活动形式吸引了1,000多名来自川大和成都其他高校的学生前来参观咨询。
2011年的"GE创想未来暑期实习生"计划在全国招募400多位实习生，岗位分布在GE各地各业务集团的多个部门，这比2010年度该项目招揽200多位实习生的规模翻了一番。截止2010年底，历年被"创想未来暑期实习生"计划录取的学生中，有50%完成实习后转正成为了GE的正式员工。

2011年4月26日，上海------GE全球研发中心最近发布了一套高功率激光电弧复合焊系统（HLAW），该技术有望彻底改变未来的工业产品制造方式。
20千瓦的高功率，使该系统一经发布便成为了北美地区最大的高功率激光电弧复合焊接设备。强大的功率使焊接速度大幅提升---使用其他技术需要多达六道完成焊接的1英寸厚度钢板，在该系统下仅需单道即可完成焊接作业。举例来说：相比过去传统的焊接方式，如果使用GE新型HLAW技术焊接 USS Saratoga航空母舰，可以节省近800吨焊缝金属、80%焊接时间。目前，GE正在探索将该技术应用到其基础设施制造方面，包括石油天然气，发电，航空以及铁路等行业。
