2008年9月8日 - 今天，通用电气（GE）旗下的GE油气集团宣布再次中标中国西气东输工程，成为该项目的二线工程管道压缩设备的供应商，项目合同总额逾一亿美元。作为中国的能源大动脉，西气东输工程被誉为中国21世纪最重要的基础设施之一，GE 曾于2005年被选作西气东输一线工程的设备供应商。
西气东输二线工程是中国提升清洁燃料利用率计划中不可或缺的重要部分，旨在满足国内巨大的能源需求。根据官方网站资料显示，西气东输二线工程是中国第一条引进境外天然气的大型管道工程。西气东输二线管道将把天然气从土库曼斯坦输送到中国南方，从而满足上海和广东等地日益增长的能源需求。新管道由一条主干线和八条支干线组成，已于今年年初开始动工建设。据了解，新管道的长度将超过9000公里，穿越12个省和自治区，每年的天然气设计输送能力高达300亿立方米。该管道属中国最大的石油与天然气生产商与销售商------中国石油天然气股份有限公司所有。
