75-ton water purification system to depart Sharjah this evening on world's largest aircraft

Sharjah, January 10, 2005: Today, Assist International announces the donation by GE of a water purification system that will produce at least 432,000 gallons of potable water per day in Banda Aceh, the northern Indonesian province that was the hardest hit by the tsunami. The equipment has the potential to provide drinkable water for 110,000 Indonesians per day. GE expects the system to be functional as soon as next weekend, January 15-16.

GE코리아(대표 이 채욱 사장)는 12월 28일 한국의 이공계 대학생 3, 4학년 20명에게 GE 장학금을 전달한다. 우리나라에서 이공계 기피 문제가 불거지기 훨씬 이전인 1992년부터 시작된 GE장학금 시상제도(GE Foundation Scholarship Program)는 한국의 우수한 이공계 학생들의 능력향상을 위해 큰 기여를 해 오고 있다. 장학금 수혜자는 현재 학부를 졸업한 후 미국, 영국, 독일의 석사 및 박사 과정에 장학금을 받고 수학하고 있거나 한국내 기업체에 근무하며 한국이공계 발전에 노력하고 있다. 이 채욱 사장은 "GE장학금 프로그램은 사회적 책임을 다하고자 노력하는 GE의 기업시민활동의 하나"이며 계속 이 활동을 강화할 계획이라고 말했다. 2002년 5월 GE코리아 사장으로 취임후 이 사장은 2003년 부터 장학금 수혜자를 늘려 매년 총 20명의 3, 4학년 학부생들에게 장학금을 제공하여 지금까지 모두 94명에게 장학금을 지급해 왔다.
