Lights on and ready for historic LED rollout

Sydney has become the first city in Australia to roll-out new energy-efficient LED street and park lights

A joint venture of GE and UGL Limited (UGL), selected by tender, has begun installing the first batch of new LED lights on George Street, in front of Sydney Town Hall as part of a $7million three year project.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the rollout of LED lights, following a successful 18 month trial in Alexandria Park, Kings Cross, Martin Place and Circular Quay, would reduce emissions and halve the energy use.

GE LED Lamps Bring New Glow to New Zealand's Wanganui City Bridge

New Zealand, 30 March 2012--- GE Lighting today announced that the Wanganui District Council in New Zealand has refitted the lights on the Wanganui City Bridge using 14 GE LED fittings saving the council up to NZ$9,000 (USD $7.4K) in reduced power and maintenance costs, over the life of the fittings. This translates into a payback period of 6.2 years. The Wanganui District Council will progressively replace other conventional fittings with LED light sources when these fittings reach end of life.

Australia alone in low-carbon competitiveness slide

Sydney, 19 March 2012: Australia is the only G20 country that has gone backwards on its low-carbon competitiveness since 1995 according to the Global Climate Leadership Review 2012 released today by The Climate Institute.

In an innovative index from The Climate Institute and GE that measures a country's ability to prosper in the emerging global low carbon economy, Australia rates the worst of any advanced economy. Ranked 16th among the G20 nations, Australia is the only country which has a current score lower than it had in 1995.
