The whole group measures about the width of a human hair and is part of the brain's somatosensory area, which maps senses to the part of the body where they were experienced. This is the part of the sensory system that tells you a pain is coming from your foot or that a friend's tap is on your shoulder.

As new technologies go, 3D printing is a bit of an attention hog. In recent years, we've seen printers with increasingly amazing capabilities: from ones that extrude plastic to create small objects to machines with lasers that melt metal powder into amazingly intricate jet engine parts.

But the cool factor of 3D printing sometimes obscures a movement in manufacturing that could have an even bigger impact: platforms that help us share ideas, suppliers and marketplaces. That emerging network is why I'm optimistic that 2014 marks the rise of the hardware startup.

London: 5 February 2014 -- GE Capital and Ares Management Ltd. have acted as Mandated Lead Arrangers for £76.5 million of unitranche facilities for NoteMachine, a mid-market portfolio company of Corsair Capital. Proceeds of the facilities were used to refinance existing indebtedness with additional funding also available to support future acquisitions.

As someone who straddles both the academic and scientific worlds, I was keenly aware of the frustrating impact the government shutdown had on science and research this past fall. I also saw my academic colleagues wearily trying to recover from the impact of sequestration. During the government shutdown, we witnessed the suspension of new clinical trials, furlough of employees in research institutions, and concurrent inability to conduct research - 4 of the 5 Nobel Prize-winning scientists were unable to conduct research.

GE Capital Provides Credit Facility To Tangent Medical

BETHESDA, MD -- FEB. 05, 2014 --- GE Capital, Healthcare Financial Services, announced today that it has provided a $5 million senior secured term loan credit facility to Tangent Medical, Inc., an intravenous therapy products company. GE Capital, Healthcare Financial Services is acting as agent and sole lender for the credit facility. The financing will be used to support the company's commercialization and development efforts.
