An astronomer has discovered a river of hydrogen flowing through space. The faint gas filament is streaming into the nearby galaxy NGC 6946 and may help explain how certain spiral galaxies keep up their steady pace of star formation.

Not Your Average Fridge Magnet: These High-Tech Magnets Will Keep Your Butter (and Beer) Cold

Researchers working in GE labs have used a special magnetic material to achieve temperatures cold enough to freeze water. The breakthrough system, which is projected to be 20 percent more efficient than current refrigeration technology, could be inside your fridge by the end of the decade. 

The system is using a water-based fluid flowing through a series of magnets to transfer heat, rather than a chemical refrigerant and a compressor. This significantly lowers any harm to the environment and makes the recycling of old refrigerators simpler.

For more than a year, 1st Sergeant Doug Hester, saw, heard and was even able to smell the horrors of war.

"Any time I smell diesel fuel, it brings me right back," said Hester.

GE Licensing Makes GE-Developed IP Available to Alberta Entrepreneurs; Start-Up Company Vadu Inc. First Licensee

CALGARY, Alberta (February 6, 2014). GE Licensing is making GE-developed intellectual property (IP) available to entrepreneurs and small businesses to bring technologies with commercial potential to market faster.

As part of a pilot to test the approach, the first licensee of GE developed technology will be Edmonton's Vadu Inc. Vadu plans to commercialize a proprietary GE video analytics technology. Customers will be able to use Vadu's solution to customize and enhance consumer-buying experiences and improve sales effectiveness in real-world environments.
