Specifying Beta and Eta Values

The Specify Beta and Eta option allows you to draw a line by entering both the Beta and Eta values. This tool may be useful when you create a Custom Line to indicate the production rate of output used in another Production Analysis. Simply copy the Beta and Eta values for the Demonstrated Line from that analysis and then provide them when using this option. In the following example, we will create a Custom Line.

To draw a Custom Line by specifying Beta and Eta values:

  1. On the Production Analysis page, on the Analysis Tasks menu, click the Create CL link.

A submenu appears.

  1. Click Specify Beta and Eta.

The Create Custom Line dialog box appears.

  1. In the Beta text box, type the desired Beta value. The Beta value is set to 10 by default but can be changed to any number between .001 and 1000.

  2. In the Eta text box, type the desired Eta value. The Eta value is set to 1 by default but can be changed to any number less than 1000000000.

  3. Click OK.

The line appears and intersects the production output where the Reliability Percentage is 36.8% with a slope designated by the specified Beta value. The Beta and Eta values specified appear on the Production Lines pane. In the following example, the Beta value is set to 25 and the Eta value is set to 3368.8576. These are the values we chose to use for the Custom Line in our bottled water production process example.

  1. On the Common Tasks menu, click the Save Analysis or Save Analysis As link to save all changes.
