System Strategies

About System Strategies

A System Strategy is a collection of Asset Strategies. The first step in building a System Strategy is to create a System Strategy record. You can then further define the System Strategy by adding one or more Asset Strategies. Then, you can build Unit Strategies.

About Unit Strategies

A Unit Strategy is a collection of System Strategies. The first step in building a Unit Strategy is to create a Unit Strategy record. You can then further define the Unit Strategy by adding one or more System Strategies.

Access a System or Unit Strategy

Procedure

  1. Access the ASM Overview page.
  2. Select the System and Unit Strategies tab.

    A list of system and unit strategies appears.

  3. In the Strategy ID column, select the link for the system or the unit strategy that you want to view.

    The Strategy Details workspace for the selected system or unit strategy appears, displaying the Strategy Overview section. The following charts appear:

    • Risk Profile
    • Cost Projection
    Note:
    • You can also access the system strategy for an asset strategy if you view an asset strategy that participates in a system strategy. To do so, in the upper-right corner of the Strategy Details workspace of an asset strategy, select , and then select Go To System Strategy.
    • You can also access the unit strategy for a system strategy if you view a system strategy that participates in a unit strategy. To do so, in the upper-right corner of the Strategy Details workspace of a system strategy, select , and then select Go To Unit Strategy.

Filter System or Unit Strategies by State

Procedure

  1. Access the ASM Overview page.
  2. Select the System and Unit Strategies tab.
    A list of available strategies appears.

  3. Select the system or unit strategy where you want to filter strategies.
    In a new tab, the Strategy Details appears. The following image shows the Strategy Details for a system strategy.

  4. Select Review Strategy.
    The Review Strategy workspace appears.

  5. Select .
    A window appears, showing the available filters.

  6. Select the appropriate filter actions by selecting the check box next to that filter option.

    To remove any filter option, remove the check in the check box.

Create a System or Unit Strategy

Procedure

  1. Access the ASM Overview page.
  2. In the page, select, then select Create System Strategy or Create Unit Strategy.
    The new strategy appears in a new tab, displaying the Strategy Identification section. The following image shows the Strategy Identification section for a system strategy.

  3. As needed, enter values in the available fields for a system or unit strategy.
  4. Select .
    The strategy is created.

Add an Existing Asset Strategy to a System Strategy

Before You Begin

This topic assumes that you have pre-existing asset strategies to add to your system strategy.

Procedure

  1. Access the system strategy to which you want to add an asset strategy.
  2. In the left pane, select the Manage Strategy tab.
    The Manage Strategy workspace appears.

  3. Select .
    The Add Existing Asset Strategies window appears.

  4. For each strategy that you want to add, select the check box, and then select Add.
    The asset strategy is added to the system strategy.

Add Existing System Strategy to a Unit Strategy

Before You Begin

This topic assumes that there are pre-existing system strategies to add to the unit strategy.

Procedure

  1. Access the unit strategy to which you want to add a system strategy.
  2. In the pane, select Manage Strategy.
    The Manage Strategy workspace appears.

  3. Select , and then select Add Existing.
    The Add Existing System Strategies window appears.

  4. For each strategy that you want to add, select the check box, and then select Add.
    The system strategy is added to the unit strategy.

Manage Actions in Risk Analysis for a System or Unit Strategy

Procedure

  1. Access the system or unit strategy whose actions you want to manage.
  2. In the pane, select Risk Analysis.
    The Risk Analysis workspace appears. The following image shows the Risk Analysis workspace for a unit strategy.

  3. After reviewing the charts at the bottom of the workspace, decide which actions you want to modify for the strategy.

  4. Select the actions that you want to remove by clearing the check boxes next to those actions, and then select Apply Selections.
    A window appears, asking you to confirm that you want to remove the actions that have not been selected.
  5. Select Yes.
    A message appears, confirming your changes.

Use Mass State Management in a System or Unit Strategy

Procedure

In the Review Strategy workspace, you can use mass state management to update the state of all the Asset Strategies contained within your system or unit strategy at the same time.

  1. Access the system or unit strategy for which you want to use mass state management.
  2. Select the Review Strategy tab.
    The Review Strategy workspace appears. The following image shows the Review Strategy workspace for a system strategy.

  3. In the State box, select the appropriate choice for the state of the strategy.
    Note: The State and Operations drop-down menus are context-sensitive. The option that you select in the State drop-down menu affects the choices that you have in the Operations menu.
  4. In the Operations box, select the appropriate state, and then select Apply.
    A message appears, asking you to confirm that you want to perform the selected operation.
  5. Select Yes.
    A message appears, confirming that the operation has been performed.
    Note: To move the strategy through the rest of the state assignments, perform steps 3 through 5 as needed. To view the state assignments and the state management history at any time, select Assignments.

Review Strategy in a System or Unit Strategy

Procedure

  1. Access the system or unit strategy that you want to review.
  2. In the pane, select the Review Strategy tab.
    The Review Strategy workspace appears.

    To view each strategy in your system or unit strategy, select the hyperlink for the appropriate strategy.

Remove an Asset Strategy or System Strategy from a System or Unit Strategy

This topic describes how to remove an asset strategy or a system strategy from a unit strategy.

Before You Begin

Only the owner of the strategy has the system permissions to delete a strategy.

Procedure

  1. Access the system or unit strategy from which you want to remove an asset or a system strategy.
  2. Select the Manage Strategy tab.
    The Manage Strategy workspace appears, displaying a list of available strategies.
  3. For each strategy that you want to remove, select the check box.
    In the workspace, is enabled.
  4. Select .
    A window appears, asking you to confirm that you want remove the selected strategy from the system or unit strategy.
  5. Select Yes.
    The selected strategy is removed.

Delete a System or Unit Strategy

Procedure

  1. Access the ASM Overview page.
  2. Select the System and Unit Strategies tab.
    The System and Unit Strategies section appears, displaying a list of system and unit strategies.
  3. Select the row containing the strategy that you want to delete, and then, in the section, select .
    The Confirm Delete dialog appears, asking you to confirm that you want to delete the strategy.
  4. Select Yes.
    The strategy is deleted.
    Note: You can also delete a strategy using the delete button () while viewing the strategy that you want to delete.
