2009년7월 14일, 켄터키 루이스빌 -- GE는 오늘 가정 전기를 효율적으로 소비 관리ㆍ생산하여 연간 전기료를 '제로(0)'로 만드는 턴-키 방식의 제품 포트폴리오를 2015년까지 개발할 것이라고 발표했다. 해당 제품은 새로 건축하는 주택 뿐 만 아니라 기존 주택에서 모두 이용할 수 있다.

GE는 현재 보유하고 있는 에너지 효율성이 높은 조명 및 가전제품과 현재 개발 중인 양방향 기술에 더해, 제로 에너지 주택을 가능케 하는 태양열 집열판, 풍력발전기와 같은 가정용 발전기도 개발 할 예정이다.
