2008年12月1日，中国上海------中国首架自主研发的支线喷气式飞机ARJ21于11月28日成功完成首飞，GE航空集团为其提供动力，并将助其完成接下来一系列的试飞项目。
首次试飞时间一个小时，飞行高度达到4000余米，ARJ21的生产制造商中国商用飞机有限责任公司（中国商飞）宣告首飞成功。 GE航空集团为ARJ21提供了一整套推进系统，包括为每架飞机提供两台CF34-10A飞机发动机。
中国商飞计划在月底进行第二次试飞，并于2009年年初进行工程飞行测试。明年还将会有三架飞机加入试飞工作，以确保2010年飞机完成适航取证并交付使用。
首飞之前，ARJ21国内外订单就已达到200多架，这一数字在未来20年有望达到850架。这意味着GE航空集团的CF34发动机销售收入将可能超过40亿美元。
