GEとインテル・コーポレーションは本日、高齢者の自立した生活、ならびに慢性疾患患者の自宅や任意の場所での疾患管理を支援する在宅医療のテクノロジーの開発および販売において提携することを発表しました。
この提携に伴い、GEのヘルスケア事業部門であるGEヘルスケアは今後、慢性疾患患者のケアを担当する医療従事者向けのケアマネジメントツール「Intel® Health Guide」を販売します。慢性疾患を抱える患者や高齢者が飛躍的に増加し、病院を離れた在宅ケアに対するニーズが高まりを見せる中、GEヘルスケアとインテルはこの喫緊の課題克服に向けて連携支援します。なお、2009年の遠隔ヘルスケア（telehealth）および在宅ヘルスモニタリングの推定市場規模は30億ドルですが、2012年までに77億ドルに拡大すると予測されています [1]。
