On October 7, biologist James E. Rothman received the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine together with colleagues Randy W. Schekman and Thomas C. Südhof. Rothman is a professor of biomedical sciences at Yale. Over the last decade he has served as a senior advisor to GE Global Research in Niskayuna, NY. He is also a former chief scientist at GE Healthcare. GE Reports managing editor Tomas Kellner talked to Rothman last week about his discovery, innovation, and GE.

Secretary of State for Wales praises local apprentices

A group of apprentices from GE Aviation Wales have successfully completed their apprenticeships at the overhaul facility in Nantgarw.

The 20 apprentices, who have completed the apprenticeship programme, were recognised at a graduation ceremony held at the site and attended by the Secretary of State for Wales, David Jones.

Having qualified to become aircraft engineers, the graduates have secured employment at the facility and will support the four main engine types which GE Aviation specialises in servicing.

MOSCOW, Russia --- October 12, 2013 --- Power Generation Train No. 4 of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk equipped with three GE LM6000 PF Sprint aeroderivative gas turbines, has been commissioned.

The project was executed in cooperation with Sakhalin Energy Company OJSC under the "Far East and Trans-Baikal Economic and Social Development for the Period until 2013" Federal Target Program and "Electrical Power Industry Development for the Period until 2010 and Long-Term Development until 2020" Regional Target Program.
