In August 2011, the Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) and its partners began drilling a well into the layer of soft sandstone located a mile beneath its headquarters in Decatur, Illinois. This was unusual in two respects. First, ADM isn't an energy concern--it is the world's largest agricultural commodities company. Second, the well wasn't meant to extract oil or gas, but to inject carbon dioxide back into the ground.

GE Capital Aviation Services Signs Purchase-and-Leaseback Deal with TUI Travel for Two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners

March 13, 2014

SHANNON, Ireland, March 13, 2014 -- GE Capital Aviation Services Limited (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of GE, today announced a purchase-and-leaseback agreement with TUI Travel for two new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.

The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in May and June 2014 and will become the first 787 models in the GECAS fleet.

GECAS placed an order directly with Boeing in September 2013 for 10 of the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner models. These aircraft are scheduled for delivery beginning in 2019.

Jay Rogers, a former marine with an MBA from Harvard, and his friend Jeff Jones were still in business school when they hit upon an idea that could one day remake American manufacturing. In 2008, they started an online car company where people could collaborate on design and build their vehicles in a network of local "microfactories." They called it Local Motors.

Company's Dane County operations produce annual economic impact of $342 million on state

MADISON, Wis. -- March 12, 2014 -- A new, independent study of GE Healthcare reveals the company's Life Care Solutions business in Madison is an important part of the Dane County and statewide economy, with a total economic impact of around $342 million in Wisconsin annually. Additionally, the study shows GE Healthcare Madison supports nearly 1,780 jobs in the Badger State, including approximately 630 employees at its Ohmeda Drive facility.
