Changing The Balance
In Bangalore, India, GE Healthcare subsidiary Wipro GE has built a brand-new factory that’s made a special effort to hire women. When we visited in early March, some 35 women were working on medical imaging machines that will help doctors treat patients in India and around the world; that number is expected to reach 100 within the next two to three years. “We bring the women to the facility, we train them and we help them understand the manufacturing process,” says Akshatha Thimmaiah, a production team leader who oversees CT scanner assembly at the plant. “They always come with a big smile and they are energized by the fact that they get to build their careers both within GE and outside.” GE Reports has the story here — and check out the video below.
Air Digital
Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) has said it will use GE Digital’s Fuel Insight software to help the carrier reduce its carbon footprint and meet its net-zero goals by 2050. ANA is Japan’s largest airline, with a complex fleet structure representing a number of aircraft types. Last November, a long-haul flight from London to Abu Dhabi operated by Etihad Airways notched an important aviation industry milestone by reducing the trip’s carbon emissions by 72% compared with a similar flight in 2019, using existing technologies that included Fuel Insight. The Jet2 Set
The U.K.-based airline Jet2 selected CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines to power its new fleet of up to 75 Airbus A321neo aircraft. The order includes spare engines and a long-term services support agreement. Jet2 plc has been a CFM customer since 2002 and has selected the LEAP engine as part of its fleet renewal strategy. “The LEAP engine has been demonstrating significant improvements in terms of CO2 and noise emissions that will help us optimize our operations and provide a more comfortable customer experience,” said Philip Meeson, executive chairman of Jet2. “We are also going to increase the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) with the LEAP engine to address our ambitious sustainability goals.” The story is here.
