JFK Library Foundation and GE Foundation Announce STEM Scholarship Program

December 20, 2017

40 Boston Public School Students will Receive Awards Annually

Dec.  20, 2017 - Boston, MA - The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and GE Foundation announce the establishment of a scholarship program to assist high school seniors who are graduating Boston Public Schools and plan to pursue a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) major in college. Starting with the graduating class of 2018 and running through 2022, 40 seniors will each be awarded $2,500 to be used for college.

“While the term STEM may not have been coined when President John F. Kennedy challenged America to put a man on the Moon, his continued emphasis on science and math education motivated a generation,” said Steven M. Rothstein, Executive Director of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. “We are grateful to the GE foundation for helping stimulate interest in STEM education among tomorrow’s Boston public high school graduates.”

"GE Foundation and Boston Public Schools are working together to help introduce students to career opportunities and develop the skills required for the future of work," said Ann R. Klee, President of GE Foundation. “Just as President John F. Kennedy built his legacy as a driver of innovation, the JFK-GE Foundation STEM Scholarship Program will foster the next generation of thinkers, pioneers, and visionaries to make the world a better place.”

Students can click here to access the application online. Submissions will be accepted through Feb 1, 2018; winners will be announced in the spring.
