MINNETONKA, MINN.---October 1, 2013---GE's (NYSE: GE) water technology manufacturing plant in Minnetonka, Minn., today was recognized by the Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration for exemplary workplace safety at the facility.
GE was honored to be accepted into the Minnesota STAR (MNSTAR) Program, which recognizes companies where managers and employees work together to develop safety and health management systems that go beyond basic compliance with all applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. These systems result in immediate and long-term prevention of job-related injuries and illnesses. Key elements of this comprehensive program include management leadership and employee involvement; an allocation of resources to address safety issues; systems that identify and control workplace hazards; and a plan for employee safety training and education.
Earlier today, Ken Peterson, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, GE executives and Minnetonka officials participated in a flag raising ceremony.
"GE Water & Process Technologies has shown great leadership to allocate both the time and the resources needed to reach this MNSTAR goal," said Peterson. "Its employees and management are to be commended for their joint efforts to make the commitment that safety is the top priority."
GE's Minnetonka plant produces filters and spiral wound membrane elements and equipment across the spectrum of membranes including reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration and microfiltration for global water treatment and reuse.

The MNSTAR Program, which began in Minnesota in January 1999, is modeled after the federal OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, which began in 1982. There are currently more than 2,000 companies nationwide that have met the program requirements but only 33 companies in Minnesota have received this prestigious recognition.
The Minnetonka facility is a state-of-the-art GE Center of Excellence (CoE), which currently employs more than 500 people and brings together the company's most advanced capabilities and expertise to focus on a key technology sector. This CoE integrates technology development, manufacturing capacity and quality control for membrane production, all under one roof.
