November 15, 2011

GE India has started a month-long celebration highlighting GE's inclusive and diverse workplace. GE Women's Network is organizing day-long events in five Indian cities themed "Aspire. Connect. Lead".

New Delhi/Bangalore, November 15: GE India announced today that the company has started a month-long celebration highlighting GE's inclusive and diverse workplace. As part of this celebration, GE Women's Network, a voluntary organization for GE employees which helps GE attract and grow women in the company, is organizing day-long events in five Indian cities themed "Aspire. Connect. Lead".

"The GE workplace is defined by diversity and inclusiveness. Our Women's Network and other affinity groups help us provide a platform for like-minded employees to connect and learn from others as they grow their careers in GE and navigate work-life challenges. This month-long focus on diversity will help us showcase our industry-leading workplace practices through the eyes of our employees," said David Lobo, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, GE India.

Over 600 women employees will participate in this series of events, while several other diversity-related activities will touch all 14,000 GE employees in India. At the events, the participants will interact with peers, GE leaders and other industry leaders with topics of discussion ranging from developing a business mindset, taking control over one's career and actively managing it, to health and work-life balance. GE employees in India will also have the opportunity to participate in web-chats with leaders and write web logs about their views on inclusiveness and diversity at GE.

About GE Women's Network

GE Women's Network, is a voluntary organization with the mission of fostering professional development to grow, attract and retain successful women throughout the General Electric Company. The Women's Network was created in 1997 to help the women working at GE advance their careers and the company's business. This effort includes sharing the experience, best-practices, and knowledge of successful women role models: the executive team represents a diverse group of women from each of GE's businesses and critical corporate functions. Today the rapidly growing Women's Network has evolved into a worldwide organization of over 250 hubs across the world. The Network started in India in 2002. As with other Affinity Groups at GE, the Network membership is not limited to women only - participation is open to all. The Network has four global initiatives that members use to develop personal and professional skills:

1. Women & Technology: a forum to help develop women in technology roles and those who want to use technology to grow their careers

2. Women in Commercial: a forum for women in commercial roles (sales, marketing and customer facing jobs)

3. myConnections: an initiative that promotes small group mentoring and peer group mentoring

4. HealthAhead: an initiative that promotes healthy living and habits.
