GE Aviation creates 100 new highly-skilled jobs at its engine servicing and testing facility in Nantgarw

January 26, 2011

The Welsh economy received a boost today with the announcement of 100 new jobs created at the GE Aviation Wales aircraft servicing facility in Nantgarw, near Cardiff. With a 1,100 strong workforce and an annual turnover approaching £1.25 billion ($2 billion), GE Aviation is one of the largest employers in Wales.

The new jobs will be for aircraft engineers and are as a result of growing demand for servicing of the GE90 engine which last year accounted for $1.4 billion in sales.

Said Adrian Button Managing Director of GE Aviation in Nantgarw;

"In the face of difficult global economics conditions, we have continued our investment in technology and jobs at GE Aviation, resulting in a boost in operating performance and an increase in the volume of work we do. The decision to invest in 100 highly skilled jobs will play an important role in our expansion plans for the next year. By investing in strong talent we will ensure GE Aviation Wales continues to offer a world-class service."

GE Aviation invests heavily in staff training and development with the majority of its highly-skilled work force holding qualifications gained through higher education. The Nantgarw site also employs over 100 apprentices and interns.

The GE Aviation servicing facility in Nantgarw has also signed a major new contract with TUI worth 130 engines over the next five years, and has introduced new capabilities to service and test the new fuel-efficient GP7200 engine used on the Airbus A380 superjumbo.
