MOSCOW, Russia --- October 12, 2013 --- Power Generation Train No. 4 of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk equipped with three GE LM6000 PF Sprint aeroderivative gas turbines, has been commissioned.
The project was executed in cooperation with Sakhalin Energy Company OJSC under the "Far East and Trans-Baikal Economic and Social Development for the Period until 2013" Federal Target Program and "Electrical Power Industry Development for the Period until 2010 and Long-Term Development until 2020" Regional Target Program.
Each of these gas turbine units produces 46.4 MWt. They are to be used with waste heat recovery boilers in power generation train No. 4 to increase electrical power and heat output for Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

The GE equipment was manufactured in March 2012 and brought to Sakhalin in May 2012. SK Energostroy LLC began installation of the GE equipment at the power plant in June 2012. Power Generation Train No. 4 is planned to be commissioned in October 2013.
GE had previously supplied two LM6000 PD Sprint gas turbine units with 91.2 MWt of total output for Power Generation Train No. 5 of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk ТЭЦ-1 (CPP-1), commissioned in August 2012. With the introduction of Power Generation Train No. 4, the total power output of GE equipment installed in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk ТЭЦ-1 (CPP-1) reaches 230.2 MWt. This allows the island's power grid reserve to be increased and takes a number of worn power generating units out of service.
