Procter & Gamble: A Smart Manufacturing Transformation
EXPLORE MORE CUSTOMER STORIES
Implement smart manufacturing into one of the world’s largest and oldest CPG companies.
Procter & Gamble has a long history of working closely with GE Digital to transform its manufacturing processes. This partnership is focused on finding new ways to provide its operating teams with the digital tools they need to remain one of the most successful companies in the industry.
Fast-changing market demand spurred the need for a step change beyond continuous improvement and created a new challenge: to further improve the speed of production in P&G factories, and to do it at a lower cost. To achieve this goal, the two companies collaborated together to implement the Manufacturing Data Cloud (MDC), which was used to move data from Proficy Plant Applications into the cloud, thereby reducing infrastructure cost, delivering performance improvements and providing cross-business value-based analytics.
Uncovering Additional Value at Speed
P&G and GE Digital formulated a plan of attack to further catapult P&G on their digital transformation journey by building out and complementing what they already had in the Proficy solution suite - Proficy Plant Applications, iFix, Proficy Historian, Proficy Workflow - throughout 94 plants worldwide. This required implementing MDC, a first of its kind solution designed to consolidate and transform manufacturing data across plants for enterprise cloud storage and analysis.
The aggressive rollout of this innovative new tool began with a test pilot of MDC in three P&G plants and swiftly progressed to the point where 78 plants had been integrated within two years. Implementation of the solution has allowed P&G to move manufacturing data to the cloud, reduced infrastructure costs and enabled them to run powerful value-based analytics that have yielded benefits rapidly.
This approach has delivered the right visibility of relevant information from top leadership to machine operators while also reducing infrastructure, decreasing deployment and update costs and further streamlining P&G’s operational flexibility.
The continued innovation partnership between P&G and GE Digital is the foundation that will enable future improvements despite fast-moving market changes. P&G has the infrastructure to further leverage predictive analytics to maximize productivity, innovate faster and reduce time to market—all of which are key to maintaining market leading positions in challenging CPG markets.
