Baghdad, Iraq; 18th April, 2021: The Prime Minister of Iraq, His Excellency Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, inaugurated the Samawa Power Plant in the Al Muthanna governorate. GE Gas Power led the construction of the facility, which is the first new utility scale power plant to be built in the governorate since 1975. Four GE 9E gas turbines have been installed and commissioned at the plant under the first phase of the project, helping the facility to generate up to 500 megawatts (MW) in simple cycle operations.
To be powered by three GE 9HA.01 gas turbines, the Hamriyah project is expected to be the most efficient power plant in the Middle East’s utilities sector.

Baghdad, Iraq; December 14, 2020: Highlighting its commitment to keep strengthening Iraq’s power sector, GE Gas Power marked a major milestone by synchronizing two GT13E2 gas turbines to the national grid at the Zubair Permanent Power Generation Plant. The facility is owned by the Basra Oil Company and located at the Zubair oil field, about 20 kilometers from the city of Basra. ENI Iraq B.V.
Baghdad, Iraq; December 9, 2020: Highlighting its continued support to the Iraqi government to enhance power generation and strengthen the country’s electricity infrastructure, GE today announced the completion of a major overhaul of a 9E.03 gas turbine at the Ministry of Electricity’s Al Qudus Power Plant. This helps to secure the delivery of up to 125 megawatts (MW) of power from the unit to the national grid, meeting the demand for electricity with more reliable power.
