UCSF, GE Healthcare team up on pioneering cord blood project

San Francisco, CA - UCSF and the Cell Technologies business of GE Healthcare Life Sciences have begun a unique collaboration aimed at overcoming the lack of blood-forming stem cells available to patients suffering from life-threatening diseases such as lymphoma, myeloma, leukemia or sickle cell anemia. The goal of the $840,000, three-year project is to make better use of a rich source of routinely discarded stem cells: umbilical cord blood from the birth of a baby.

Research revealing spatial map of human genome earns top prize for young life scientists

WASHINGTON, DC -- For his novel approach to creating maps that enable researchers to zoom in on the human genome and reveal features of DNA structure inside the nucleus, Erez Lieberman Aiden has been named the 2011 Grand Prize winner for the GE & Science Prize for Young Life Scientists. The annual competition includes a grand-prize award of $25,000 and is supported by GE Healthcare and the journal Science, which is published by AAAS, the nonprofit science society.

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK and CHALFONT St. GILES, UK -- 17 October, 2011 - Affitech A/S (NASDAQ OMX: AFFI) and GE Healthcare Life Sciences announced today that GE Healthcare Life Sciences has executed an exclusive license for the worldwide marketing and sales of products containing recombinant Protein L, granted by Affitech in a patent and know-how license agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, GE Healthcare Life Sciences agrees to pay Affitech a royalty of the net sales of all related products sold by GE Healthcare Life Sciences.
