日本GE株式会社（本社：東京都港区、社長：藤森義明）とGEヘルスケア・ジャパン株式会社（本社：東京日野市、社長：熊谷昭彦）は1月17日（月）、仙台市内でシンポジウム「少子高齢化を克服する宮城モデル創出へ」を開催し、宮城県の少子高齢化の課題を産官学でどのように連携し、解決していくべきかを議論しました。
日本は世界に先駆けて少子高齢化が急速に進んでいます。宮城県ではすでに65歳以上の高齢者人口が21%を超えており、超高齢社会に突入しつつあります。そして人口の高齢化に伴い、医師不足や医療環境の地域格差が重大な課題になっています。
一方、GEは2009年5月に世界が直面する最も困難な医療課題の解決に向けたビジネス戦略「ヘルシーマジネーション（healthymagination）」を立ち上げ、身近で質の高い医療をより多くの人々に提供することを目指し、世界規模で数々の投資や技術革新を重ねています。宮城県とGEはともに地域医療の充実が少子高齢社会の課題解決に貢献できるという共通認識を持っています。

However the 400 senior executives polled for the first GE High Tech Manufacturing Index also expressed concerns on other issues such as access to capital and raw materials.
