The “prep” for this middle-age ritual typically involves a liquid diet the day leading up to the appointment capped with a laxative or enema. When the colon is clear, doctors insert a flexible tube with a camera through the digestive track’s bottom end and use it look for polyps and cancer. The procedure typically requires sedation.
