Poland, which has long been dependent on coal power, is turning to the Baltic Sea to clean up its grid and join the energy revolution. The country’s north coast is deliciously rich in wind resources, and a joint venture between the PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted have awarded a consortium made up of GE Vernova and Polimex Mostostal a contract to help build a new offshore wind farm there using the latest transmission and grid automation technologies.

Avangrid, CIP announce first power from Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind farm in U.S. using GE Vernova Haliade-X wind turbines

Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) today announced that power from the Vineyard Wind project was delivered to the New England grid for the first time. As part of the initial commissioning process, at 11:52PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, one turbine delivered approximately five megawatts of power, with additional testing expected to happen both on and offshore in the coming weeks. The project expects to have five GE Vernova Haliade-X turbines operating at full capacity early in 2024.

When GE moved its headquarters to Boston in 2016, it made a commitment to the state’s leaders and citizens. In a show of allegiance to its new community, the company pledged to donate, over several years, a total of $50 million in support of local schools, job training programs, and healthcare initiatives. That promise was fulfilled with flying colors this past November, when the GE Foundation announced a $1.5 million grant to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) to launch the new GE Fellows Program.
