Software Will Help Cambodia's Newest Coal-Fired Power Plant Cut Emissions

Bruce Watson
June 07, 2017
It’s been almost 40 years since the brutal rule of the Khmer Rouge ended and many Cambodians started returning from exile to start a new life at home. As a result, Cambodia is an extremely young country — 70 percent of the 16 million people who live there are under the age of 35, and over 52 percent are under 25. “Cambodia has only really been stable from 1997 onward,” says Dararith Lim, GE’s leader for global growth and operations in Cambodia.

The Startup Power Plant: These Engineers Are Building Turbines The Silicon Valley Way

Bruce Watson
May 03, 2017
Many management experts are obsessed with "startup culture," the particular mix of vision, energy and nimbleness that allows companies to take an idea, rapidly prototype it and get it to market in short order. But could the same spirit live inside a large industrial company? GE thinks so, with the help of FastWorks, its speedy product-development initiative. In fact, engineers at GE Power just used it to improve a popular gas turbine.

Plane Power: How Software And Jet Engine Tech Are Helping Angola Leapfrog Into the Digital Age

May 02, 2017
Available capital isn’t the only obstacle to economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. Another major hurdle is the lack of reliable electricity. In fact, large parts of the region have no power at all. This makes it hard for entrepreneurs to build businesses, create jobs and generate wealth.
But things are changing. This week, Angola, Africa’s third-largest economy, signed a deal with GE to supply the final 200 megawatts (MW) of power needed to meet the government’s goal of installing 1 gigawatt (GW) of new power generation capacity by the end of 2018.

Reynolds’ passion for technology and academics is part of her legacy. By securing that first job at OSU, she enabled her husband to finish his college degree, which he’d postponed to serve in the Army, and then earn a master’s degree. He later worked as a technical editor in the school’s engineering department. Her son Brett earned degrees in mechanical engineering and fire protection, daughter Valerie Hyde works with her husband in an industrial-safety consultancy whose clients have included GE, and Scott works in information technology for American Airlines.

Điện than hiệu suất cao, ít phát thải

March 18, 2017

That’s Powerful: GE Is Using Virtual Reality To Train Nuclear Engineers

March 13, 2017

Few places in the world are more secure than a nuclear power plant in France. Anyone who doesn’t work there full time, including maintenance engineers and field technicians, needs to get a security clearance and to complete rigorous safety training before they can step inside.
This arduous process creates a unique challenge: How do you train new maintenance crews when simply getting access is so difficult? One clever answer is virtual reality.
