世界有数の産油国であるブラジルで、国営企業ペトロブラスは2011年から2015年までに2,240億ドルの設備投資を計画しています。ペトロブラスのプレソルト層への掘削計画を支援するためにGEの Power Conversion事業は、オフショア向けに移動可能な高性能石油採掘装置（リグ）の先進的な設計製造をおこなうケッペル オフショア＆マリーンに選定されたこと、およびブラジル向け半潜水型のリグ6基のための発電設備、スラスタと掘削用ドライブ装置を提供することを発表しました。
GEの電気設備はブラジル東海岸沖の深海におけるリグの効率向上とパフォーマンス向上に貢献することが期待されています。ブラジルの沖合でのオペレーションにおいては信頼性が最も重要であり、それが今回GE Power Conversionが選定された大きな要因になりました。
ケッペル オフショア＆マリーンは、セテ ブラジルとケッペルのDSS 38Eデザインに基づき、半潜水型掘削リグの設計と製造をおこなう契約を交わしたことを発表していますが、この深海向け掘削リグは2015年第4四半期をめどに運転を開始し、深海に埋蔵される約500億バレルのブラジルの石油掘削に貢献します。
