GE, The Next Chapter: GE CEO Lays Out Plans For The Future Of The Company

GE announced major changes to its business portfolio today designed to stimulate growth and generate more value for shareholders. GE’s Aviation, Power and Renewable Energy units will form a new core of the company. GE plans to turn GE Healthcare into a standalone business, distributing 80 percent to GE shareholders and monetizing the remaining 20 percent.

As chief engineer for advanced manufacturing at GE Healthcare, Beacham, 44, is in charge of a futuristic laboratory in Waukesha, Wisconsin, experimenting with new ways to make things. He and his team are using the Xbox and a connected Kinect motion tracker to bring augmented reality (AR) into the factory and help workers become more efficient.

GE's Fourth-Quarter Results: Focusing For The Future

Today, GE released its fourth-quarter results for 2017, reporting $0.27 of adjusted earnings per share. Significant one-time charges in the quarter—including an insurance charge, U.S. tax reform, and planned portfolio moves—totaled $1.49 of EPS, and excluding these charges, EPS was at the low end of guidance for the year at $1.05.

Almost every day, 13-year-old Valerie Cameron-Goodwin carries a wooden business card etched with her name, email address and dream job: surgeon. She’s proud of what this card says — and prouder still that she made it herself using an industrial-grade laser cutter in a 32-by-8-foot trailer parked by her middle school’s front door.
“At first it was confusing — how can you create something on a computer and then transfer it to a machine?” says the eighth-grader. “But then it all made sense, and it was so exciting watching my design get carved on the wood.”
