Новая ТЭЦ на базе газотурбинной установки GT13E2 производства GE обеспечит электроэнергией и теплом строящийся район «Академический» на юго-западе города.  Инвестиционный проект компании «Т Плюс» - энергетического актива ГК «Ренова» - по возведению в Екатеринбурге ТЭЦ «Академическая» стал самым крупным в городской энергосистеме за последние 30 лет.
