Harjit Birdi has been captivated by energy systems since he was a child in India. His father was an official at the State Electricity Board. When the power went down, his dad’s job was to race through town with a crew to find the source of the fault. Despite his mother’s worries, Birdi demanded that his father take him along on his emergency expeditions. A few years later, when it was time to choose his college major, the choice was obvious. “Electrical engineering fascinated me, because energy is something you can’t see,” he says. “You can’t see those electrons.

Niskayuna, NY, US – February 26, 2020 - GE announced today the successful completion of the first battery energy storage assisted black start of a GE 7F.03 gas turbine at the 150 megawatt (MW) simple cycle unit at Entergy Louisiana’s Perryville Power Station.

GE Renewable Energy & ENMAX to implement Canada’s First Hybrid Electric Gas Turbine (EGT®) System

  • GE and ENMAX have reached an agreement to add GE’s Hybrid Electric Gas Turbine technology to an existing natural gas turbine at ENMAX’s Crossfield Energy Centre in Alberta, Canada.
  • GE will provide the turnkey technology, including an Electric Gas Turbine (EGT®) modification kit to hybridize the gas turbine, inclusive of performance guarantees.
  • This first-in-Canada solution will provide flexibility in how electricity is produced and offered to market and enable lower emissions.
