GE Capital Aviation Services to Lease Two Boeing 737-800s to Kenya Airways

SHANNON, Ireland, May 28, 2014 -- GE Capital Aviation Services Limited (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing arm of GE, today announced it will lease two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Kenya Airways to expand the carrier's fleet. The aircraft come from GECAS' existing order book with Boeing and are scheduled for delivery in early 2015.

Kenya Airways currently operates more than 40 aircraft to more than 50 destinations.

TREVOSE, PA.---May 27, 2014---GE (NYSE: GE) today announced that the Swedish company WIBAX Energy AB, part of the WIBAX Group, will distribute GE's water technologies in the Nordic region. The distribution agreement, which started on May 1, 2014, combines WIBAX's local expertise and GE's advanced technologies to create greater access to innovative water and process solutions in the Nordic region. The distribution agreement will cover Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

GE Capital Provides $35.5 Million Credit Facility to Wendy's Franchisee Valenti Mid-South Management

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, MAY 27, 2014 --- GE Capital's Franchise Finance business announced today that it has provided $35.5 million in senior debt to Valenti Mid-South Management, LLC, a major Wendy's franchisee based in Tampa, FL. The funds will be used to refinance most of the company's senior debt.

Valenti owns and operates 125 Wendy's restaurants in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri and Pennsylvania, as well as 17 Chili's in Mississippi and Alabama. The company employs more than 4,900 people.

Bono calls the economist Jeffrey Sachs "the squeaky wheel that roars." To me, Sachs is the Bono of economics---a guy with impressive intelligence, passion and powers of persuasion who is devoting his gifts to speaking up for the poorest people on the planet. So I was not surprised that a journalist would find Sachs to be a compelling central character for a book---and a good way to draw readers into the potentially dry subject of international development.
