I arrived in Lagos a few weeks ago as part of Points of Light's partnership to support GE Garages Nigeria, an initiative through which GE is using the leading edge of its business---principles of open innovation and technologies in advanced manufacturing---to spur job growth and build entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

The launch platform in which I participated was a pop-up, three-week innovation and manufacturing center where aspiring makers, entrepreneurs, and students could go to develop new skills and learn about advanced manufacturing technologies.

Jose Fonollosa knows the language of machines better than many people know their mother tongue. Fonollosa, a professor at the Signal Theory and Communications Department of Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña in Barcelona, Spain, has spent two decades studying machine learning and speech recognition. In 2006, he was part of a team of researchers that devised a new way for machines to translate Spanish to English in the European Parliament.

GE Capital Provides $39.4 Million to Finance Cotti Foods' Acquisition of 39 Wendy's Restaurants

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, JULY 28, 2014 --- GE Capital's Franchise Finance business announced today that it has loaned $39.4 million to Cotti Foods for the acquisition of 39 Wendy's restaurants, the remodeling of existing units and the development of new units.

Cotti purchased the units --- 32 in the greater Los Angeles market as well as seven in Hawaii --- from Wendy's International Inc. In total, Wendy's® has sold 418 company-operated restaurants across 13 U.S. markets, primarily in the West, to align restaurant ownership and generate a more predictable revenue stream.
