The Crude Journey Of Petrol

August 26, 2017
Gasoline originates from crude oil that lies deep underground. As many people know, oil itself was formed over hundreds of millions of years from the remains of prehistoric plants and animals, compressed and heated by the action of the earth. This is where the term ‘fossil fuel’ comes from. Now hundreds of millions of years later, this rich resource helps fuel some of the world’s greatest achievements, and GE Is proud to play its part.
In our short time utilising ‘black gold’ we’ve discovered countless applications, yet the reserves we have are limited. That’s why GE is taking a leading role in providing better, smarter solutions from the oil and gas industry.  Now thanks to GE’s digital technology that process has entered the digital age. With advanced sensors linked closely to GE’s Predix industrial cloud analytics software, GE is helping industry draw oil from the ground with a level of control and oversight never before seen. And one of only three global GE iCenters designed to monitor this huge flow of industrial information for the oil and gas industry is right here in Malaysia, based in Kuala Lumpur. Just a 1% saving in efficiency would provide a $32.3 trillion saving to the oil and gas sector. But to understand the complexity, we need to understand all that happens to turn that oil into the fuels that make our modern world turn.
