A call for action on developing a holistic approach to solving our country’s energy challenges.
GE A&NZ President and CEO, Steve SargentNow is the right time for the Australian Government to deliver policy clarity and investment certainty for our shared energy future.
The Government has a clear mandate to repeal the carbon tax, but it also has an opportunity to deliver on its plans for an integrated energy policy that considers the full suite of energy solutions including gas, coal, renewables, battery storage and distribution.
We need to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our energy eco-system and stabilise the investment environment in the areas of bipartisan support such as the Renewable Energy Target (RET) and gas development.
Australia is on the cusp of an incredible productivity opportunity and policy clarity around energy is at the epicentre of being able to harvest these opportunities.

GE supports the development of Australia’s gas reserves with fewer barriers and sound regulation to deliver the right energy mix for the future, regardless of fuel source. We have the technology to access and utilise our gas reserves safely and sustainably. We are already deeply involved in the development of these resources, with our technology hard at work on 100 percent of the LNG platforms in Australia. We are also continuing our work with CSIRO on exploring a range of scenarios and solutions for Australia’s energy future through the Future Grid project.
There’s no silver bullet solution for the challenges currently facing our business leaders, community and lawmakers. However, an integrated approach to energy policy that helps to deliver fewer barriers to energy development is crucial as Australia seeks to develop its energy mix across coal, renewables and gas. We all have a role to play – business, government and the community – so let’s get on with it.
Let’s take advantage of Australia’s energy opportunity.
