Technology at work in 2014: Redefining what we know

December 17, 2014
In the third theme of this year’s At Work event, we explored how one of the most pervasive terms of the 21st century – Technology – continues to redefine even the most modern of industries. Firstly visiting the skies with Maureen Dougherty, then tunneling below the earth’s surface with David Knox, we find out how technology is changing how we fly and how we access a resource that powers the planet.
View both technology talks from At Work below.

Maureen Dougherty President, Boeing Australia & New Zealand

Capturing the imagination of a generation, the 1969 moon landing inspired children everywhere, including Maureen Dougherty, to explore the concept of flight and space travel. As part of her role, Dougherty experiments with new technologies and knows firsthand that not all trials result in success. Like the space teams before and since Apollo 11, Dougherty shares how, for every failed attempt, her industry is one step closer to lighter, faster, more environmentally-friendly aircrafts so that flight (and maybe even space travel) can be a universal experience.

David Knox, CEO, Santos

How do you find and mine new natural gas wells? Using the latest seismic technology, engineers at Santos can map below the surface of our resource-rich country no matter where they are in the world. In his talk, Knox shows us what’s made possible by technology for our country’s future in the natural gas industry – and how technology is empowering anyone to find the next gas reserve.
