Connectivity at work in 2014: Human, machine, human

December 10, 2014
The second theme of this year’s At Work eventConnectivity, invited three speakers to share their perspectives on how increasingly connected work and personal environments are transforming the way they do business. The three talks took the audience on a journey from the Industrial Internet with GE’s own Mark Sheppard, to digital healthcare with Enrico Coiera, and finally explored the social and technology game-changer that is Uber, with David Rohrsheim. View the full series of At Work talks on connectivity below.

Mark Sheppard CIO, GE Australia & New Zealand

Imagine if wind turbines on a wind farm could talk to each other to optimise battery usage and power storage, or tell an engineer when they need to be repaired. Today, big data, smart, connected machines and real-time analytics are making these efficiencies possible. Mark Sheppard tells us about the Industrial Internet and next level productivity.

Prof. Enrico Coiera, Director, Centre for Health Informatics at UNSW

New technologies have the potential to revolutionise the healthcare system in ways that the average patient could only begin to imagine. Professor Coiera’s talk on the digital safety envelope for healthcare and how it can protect you now and in the future.

David Rohrsheim General Manager, Uber Australia

David established Uber in Australia in 2012, after convincing Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick that Sydney should be Uber's third international city. Two years later, Uber has a 27 percent awareness rate and is giving commuters a welcome alternative to the taxi industry. How is Uber’s software making Australian cities work better? David talks disruption from connectivity.
